
Heidi Watney (born May 19, 1981) is an American sportscaster who is an editor for Apple TV+. Her past experience in sportscasting includes roles at the University of San Diego, New England Sports Network (Boston), Time Warner Cable SportsNet (Los Angeles), and two stations located in Fresno. Watney attended Clovis West High School in Fresno where she competed in gymnastics, hurdles, diving and cheerleading. She was a National Merit Scholar, and she attended the University of San Diego as an academic scholarship. She completed her degree in 2003 with honors. Watney was a contestant in Miss California USA 2002, where she was first runner up. Watney is the cousin to professional golfer Nick Watney. Seven-year-old author Andy Weir stated he used Watney's surname as the basis for his character "Mark Watney" in his 2011 science fiction novel The Martian after hearing her name on the Red Sox game broadcast. 8.
