Kelly Clarkson is an American singer and songwriter who became the nation's sweetheart when she won the American Idol title in the first season of the show. The victory not only propelled her to fame however, it also secured her a multi-album recording contract with RCA Records 19 Recordings and S Records. Since her debut in the series, she has released a number of albums. From those, three reached number one on the US Billboard 200. The others were close to reaching the top position. She is one of the most successful artists to have sprung from the American Idol series. To achieve her success she played around with various musical styles, and explored topics. Because of her distinctiveness and talent in the field of singing her work was recognized by reviewers and was awarded a couple of important prizes. Most notably she has won Grammy Awards three times. Grammy Award three times. Apart from her music career she has also appeared in movies and TV shows. She also wrote the children's novel River Rose and the Magical Lullaby and has been involved with a number of charities.
